Local cooling of switchboards and medium voltage transformers for industrial processes

For a company in the province of Modena, Italy, specialising in the production of pallet blocks, we created a solution to ensure the correct operation during the summer season of the transformers and switchboards that power the transformation and production lines of pressed wood blocks.

With the intervention carried out, we achieved two important results:

  • Increased efficiency of the transformers;
  • Guarantee of operational continuity of the switchboards.

The incremental efficiency derived from the correct temperature of the six transformers was the design driver, this meant that the project achieved a natural payback of 26 months, in addition to the operational continuity guarantee achieved in the plant.

The numbers of the project:

  • 4 SCM FRIGO refrigeration units mod. MCCV 3x150 Bitzer 4PES-12Y operating at low GWP R134A
    • 340kW refrigeration capacity in total;
    • 86.4kW electrical consumption in total;
    • COP efficiency 3.95.
  • 12 LU-VE evaporators mod. F35HC 213 N 7 with high efficiency EC Fans
    • 420kW refrigeration capacity in total;
    • Total fan power consumption 19.8kW .
